Ayurveda

Ayurveda (Sanskrit Āyurveda आयुर्वेद, "life-knowledge"; English pronunciation /aI.ər've'də/) or Ayurvedic medicine is a system of Hindu traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine. The oldest known Ayurvedic texts are the Suśrutha Samhitā and the Charaka Samhitā. These Classical Sanskrit texts are among the foundational and formally compiled works of Ayurveda.

Eight Components of Ayurveda

In classical Sanskrit literature, Ayurveda was called "the science of eight components", a classification that became canonical for Ayurveda:
1] (General medicine) –  Kāya-chikitsā, 2] (Pediatrics) – Kaumāra-bhṛtya 3] (Surgery) – Śhalya-chikitsā , 4] Ophthalmology / ENT/Dentistry) – Śālākya-tantra, 5] (Demonology / exorcism / psychiatry) – Bhoot (ghost)-vidyā, 6] (Toxicology) – Agada-tantra,  7] (Anti Agings) – Rasayana-tantra, 8] (Aphrodisiacs) – Vājīkaraṇa tantra
